HIKE DETAIL

Distance: Approximately 5.5 to 6 miles (moderate loop).

Duration: Approximately 3 hours.

Terrain: Rolling hills, dirt paths, rocky sections, and wood roads.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Peak Autumn Scenery: Mid-October offers prime fall foliage conditions. Expect vibrant displays along the ridges, crisp fall air, and leaf-covered trails.

Waterfalls and Streams: We'll explore scenic waterways, including Maple Brook cascades and take a break at the dramatic, 25-foot Hemlock Falls, particularly picturesque when framed by autumn foliage.

Historic Highlights: We’ll pass by historic points of interest, including the stone pillars of Ball’s Bluff.

Pace: A moderate, steady hiking pace with plenty of pauses to take in the views, snap photos, and enjoy a snack break by the falls.

WHAT TO BRING

Footwear: Please wear sturdy hiking boots or trail shoes (expect slick surfaces).

Layers: Dressing in moisture-wicking layers is key as you warm up on the climbs and cool down on the breaks.

Hydration & Snacks: Bring at least 1.5 liters of water and energy-boosting snacks.

Extras: Trekking poles (optional, but helpful for rolling hills and slick rocks) and a camera to capture the stunning beauty.

BREAA Board Member, Eric Benitez, will host an après hike lunch at his house next to the reservation.
